Are you looking for a fun weekend getaway with your family but don’t want to spend a fortune on gas to go somewhere? Well, take the short drive over to Santa Claus, Indiana, for a weekend packed full of outdoor recreation, family activities, and Christmas-themed everything!

A-weekend-Getaway.jpg-webGiddy up with the new horseback riding experience at Santa’s Stables. Your family will love riding the trails with these trained horseback guides through the wooded hills and paths of southern Indiana. Before you know it, you’ll be riding just like John Wayne. Smile The little ones in the group can even take a ride on Peaches the Pony!

Make-a-Splash-webA day at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is just what the doctor ordered this time of year. Take your kids to the same theme park/ water park you loved as a child and teach them how to zoom down the waterslides, scream on the roller coasters, and win that big prize in the games section. Beat the large crowds, heavy traffic, and summer heat and visit Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari early in the year.

A trip to the town of Santa Claus wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the gigantic Santa Claus Christmas Store to shop for anything Christmassy. Don’t forget about all the other festive shopping in town, too, including the Holly Tree Christmas Shop and Santa’s Mom Boutique. Or if you’re in the mood for something sweet, venture over to Santa’s Candy Castle and try some of their famous frozen hot chocolate.

With so many things to do and places to see in the town of Santa Claus, you’ll never want to leave! For more information on Santa Claus, Indiana, give us a call at (888) 444-9252 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The first full week of May is annually recognized as National Travel and Tourism Week in the U.S. So pack your bags and let’s hit the road! CoolLincoln-at-the-Living-Historical-Farm-Indiana-500-Tour-web

Take a trip to Lincoln City, Indiana, for the reception to kick off the Indiana 500 Tour happening this week at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.

This 500-mile tour stretches throughout southern Indiana and is themed around the state’s unique culture and historical heritage. The trip is a great way for families and travelers of all sorts to explore the beautiful state of Indiana. This year, the southern portion of the state has been chosen to be the focus of the tour in order to highlight Indiana’s diverse history. Where better to start a tour about Indiana’s history than in Lincoln’s Indiana Boyhood Home?

The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is located on the site where Lincoln lived with his family from age 7 to 21. Visitors can learn what it was like to live on a pioneer homestead in the 1800s at the Living Historical Farm by participating in daily farm duties and household tasks such as cooking, gardening, cracking corn, and much more.

Come celebrate and learn a thing or two you may not have known about the Hoosier state. The reception will begin at 2:00 pm CDT, Tuesday, at the Memorial Visitors Center. State Representative Sue Ellspermann will welcome guests and speak briefly on Lincoln’s legacy in Indiana.

So if you’re looking for an affordable and easy-to-reach vacation destination this summer, visit southern Indiana. Lincoln Amphitheatre will host a classic family film series through May, June, July, August, and September. Be a kid again and enjoy some of your favorite movies under this 1,500-seat outdoor amphitheatre located inside the very woods Abe Lincoln explored as a boy. Get lost in the world of movies and ride alongside some of your favorite characters such as Kermit in “The Muppet Movie,” Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz,” and everyone’s favorite little alien in “E.T.”

Watch as these movies come to life on Lincoln Amphitheatre’s 40 x 30 foot screen. Share with your kids the movies that helped create some of your childhood memories. Follow along with a group of friends who embark on an exciting journey after finding a pirate treasure map in "The Goonies." The movie will start at 8:00 pm CDT, Saturday, May 7, and is free of charge (monetary donations are appreciated). Discover the magic of the truffle shuffle! Smile

We’ve got a Game Plan!

Tuesday, 03 May 2011 15:14

Santas-Candy-Castle I know it’s only the beginning of the week but there are so many fun events going on this weekend that, here at the Visitors Bureau, we are already getting prepared!

Visit Santa Claus, Indiana, this Saturday for the opening day of the season at Santa’s Candy Castle and Holiday World! And head over to Lincoln’s Indiana Boyhood Home for Mr. Lincoln’s Neighborhood 5K Run/Walk and the first night of the family film series at Lincoln Amphitheatre.

With all of these events happening on the same day, you’re probably thinking “how am I going to make it to all of them?” That’s where we jump in! The Visitors Bureau is here to help you make a game plan for the weekend in order to avoid missing any of the fun activities.

A great way to start off your Saturday morning would be to participate in Mr. Lincoln’s Neighborhood 5k Run/Walk at 9:00 am CDT. The route begins and ends at the Lincoln Amphitheatre parking lot and will take you on paved roads throughout the scenic Lincoln State Park.

Explore the festive castle and be sure to chat with one of Santa’s elves on the “North Pole Network.”

Before calling it a day, head back over to Lincoln Amphitheatre and watch some of your favorite stars under the stars. “The Goonies” will come to life on Lincoln Amphitheatre’s 40 x 30 foot screen at 8:00 pm CDT.
