Tourism Commission Elects Officers for 2012

The Spencer County Tourism Commission elected officers for 2012 at its January meeting.
The following members were elected as officers for the year: President, Eric Snow of Holiday World & Splashin' Safari; Vice-President, Dave Lovell of Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort; Secretary, Mary Jeanne Schumacher of Saint Meinrad Archabbey; and Treasurer, Kendell Thompson of Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.
Other current tourism commission members are Sharon Raven of Comfort Inn & Suites in Rockport, Danielle Dowland of Sun Healthcare, and newly appointed in 2012, Julie Laswell of Christmas Lake Golf Course and Silent Night Golf & Vacation Rentals in Santa Claus.
Spencer County Sees Tourism Growth in 2011

As a new year begins, the Spencer County Visitors Bureau reflects on local tourism growth in 2011. With tourism additions, restorations, and other enhancements, the signs of continuing growth in Spencer County were evident in the past year.
“The tourism industry plays an important economic role in Spencer County,” says Melissa Wilkinson, executive director of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau. “It’s exciting to look back and see how Spencer County tourism continues to grow and to look forward to more development in 2012 and future years.”
Forbes Names Santa Claus, Ind. to “World’s Top Christmas Destinations” List

Forbes magazine, one of the world’s leading business magazines, has declared the town of Santa Claus, Indiana, as one of the “World’s Top Christmas Destinations.”
In the article, Forbes magazine claimed Santa Claus, Indiana, “enthusiastically embraces its role, with a wide array of Santa-themed shops and attractions” such as Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, the Santa Claus Museum, Santa’s Candy Castle, and the Santa Claus Post Office.
